I was all excited to come home and watch the next disc of Goong, but I guess it's not showing up until tomorrow :SADNESS:. Oh well, instead I ended up watching this!

I just finished watching the first episode of Last Friends (ラストフレンズ) and I must say.. it was quite entertaining for a first episode. It covered a lot of things that most dramas don't cover in a whole season.. and this is just the first episode!

Already they've covered issues on:

1. Spousal (Fiancée?) Abuse
2. Homosexuality
3. Parental Abuse
4. Alcoholism

Needless to say, you'd think I'd be depressed after I watched it. Well, I was a little.

The following contains SPOILERS.

The cast list they've chosen is, in my opinion, pretty damn awesome. Each actor/actress' character is so totally opposite the characters they've played before (except for maybe Masami-san, she seems to be the same from ProDai), but for some reason it works.

Masami Nagasawa-san is fairly normal in this, and reminds me a lot of Rei from ProDai. I don't really have much to say about her seeing as she was beat up and confused for 80% of the episode. I liked her in ProDai and I'm sure I'll like her here too.

Ryo-needsangermanagement Nishikido is so totally different from his character in Ichi Ritoru that it almost surprised me. He seemed like such a normal guy with a pretty good job... within the first 10 hours of his girlfriend moving in with him he ends up suspecting her of cheating and slaps her multiple times across the face, kicking her in the stomach, and almost strangling her to death. I just sat there with the WTF look on my face, it was so unexpected. The funny thing is that he has a job in the Child Welfare Division and saves children from their abusive parents. Tsk, tsk Ryo. You should know better. Or go to anger management.

Ueno Juri-san is, as always, AWESOME. I think I speak for everyone when I say she stole my heart as Nodame. However, it's a bit jarring seeing Nodame as a lesbian with a butch haircut. AND A REALLY LOW VOICE. The good thing is that she's playing a character with almost as much spunk as Nodame-san, which I like to see. After her boss sexually harassed her, she kicked him straight in the arse. Go Nodame--I mean Ruka!

Eita-san is back yet again. I've always liked the characters that he plays, because they seem to be the bold characters that you always want to have as a friend (except for in 電車男 when he was an emo kid who's only friend was a bunny ). In Last Friends, he plays a sexually confused make-up artist/bartender with dumb hair. They better fix his hair or god help me I will pull that skunk line right out of his hair myself. His hair is just fine in the OP.. why does it have to be so ugly in the show D: I'm interested to find out what his deal is though because he seems to have an ex-girlfriend who keeps calling him, yet I think he has a thing for Ruka (Ueno-san's character). Too bad she's a lesbian. I'm sure she'll go hetero for you, Eita-san :P

And lastly, Asami Mizukawa-san plays a crazy party-girl/stewardess, which for some reason, I find extremely endearing. Her character in Nodame Cantabile was so completely opposite to this, I was extremely surprised, but I TOTALLY LOVE IT. I hope she's drunk for 80% of the show because she's awesome drunk.

It's a little strange seeing 3 characters from Nodame Cantabile put together again in a drama that is very dark.. complete opposite of Nodame. But I'm excited to see the next episode.

On another note, the opening is simple, yet GORGEOUS. Plus, it's got an amazing song by Utada Hikaru. I don't think I've been disappointed with a single song she's come out with within the last 3 years. I can't wait for this song to come out in single form, so I can get it on my Ipod.

Oh and there's total girl kissing in this episode.
