I shouldn't put off writing in this because then it turns into this gigantic post of doom. ^_^;; I applaud anyone who reads the whole thing.. seriously.

Anyway.. since the concert, on Sunday I went out with a friend (who likes Arashi, but had her last day today :(( ) to a mall nearby. It wasn't the large one, but another one. This one has a movie theater in it though, so I may end up going to see Gokusen, or.. I don't know yet! :x I'd like to definitely see Crows Zero 2 when it comes out. Maybe Harry Potter?

Anyway, we walked around, did some shopping, eating, and purikura-ing. That is now a verb :) There is an AU store in there, and they had a (near) life size standee of Arashi. T__T

Ohmiya :)

Yeah.. hehe.. so we ended up being dorks and taking our pictures in front of it. She took the side of Sho, I took the Ohmiya side XD We did some shopping/looking around at a store that has just about everything. Magazines, books, manga, games, music, electronics, etc. It was really quite awesome. I of course, got a(nother) magazine. >_>;

And it came with...

:DDDD

I swear my room is going to be full of posters by the time I get back x_x; Anyway, after that we ended up going to a parfait place because we received a coupon from a store employee in the mall earlier that day. If you purchase something for 500 yen or more, you get a free drink. Le gasp. Well, I was excited because I heard they had good parfaits there, and I had eaten a light lunch to save room for some yummy Japanese parfaits.

Seriously, soooo good :x

We then ventured out to get some purikura. That was our original main goal I think. XD This one was a little different than the one we did before. They all seem to be different but have the same stickers/decoration stuff.. but the way they take pictures is all different. Either way I want to do the one where you can look like you're in a UFO or something. XDD

I also attempted to get these cute little bears, but failed absolutely miserably XD;

Eventually we headed our separate ways. It was fun and I hope to do lots more purikura with lots of people :D

Anyway, Monday and Tuesday were fairly uneventful. Went to class, did homework, watched AnS finally on TV :) Tuesday I watched the final episode of Atashinchi no Danshi. Ugh, what a let down, seriously -_-; I mean, I guess it was a cute, happy ending, but... I was definitely expecting more. Oh well, I'll have to look up and see what's on the agenda for next season.

On Wednesday our school had a mini 七夕祭り (Tanabata Festival). It's a little early, as Tanabata is held on the 7th of July, but I think they wanted to make sure that we could go to the real celebrations on the actual day. (I need to buy a yukata!! crap!) We had a little tree brought in and people made their wishes and tied them up on the tree. We also made designs and decorations with paper and put them up on the tree, and sang the traditional song as well.

たくさん友達になりますように ♥ 嵐のコンサートに行きますように ^^

The design I made. I thought I failed, but it turned out okay, I guess ^^;;

This picture is adorable.

Afterward I hung out with my Arashi friend who is leaving today (sadface) and we went to the cafe that's next door to our school called "きつつき". Neither of us had been, and I said well.. we're right next to the school, why not check it out? She got an iced coffee and I ended up getting a cream soda.. which I guess is blue here? XDD With ice cream in it. It was good, but.. XD very blue.

So when I returned home, Ojii-chan had come up and was talking with one of the other girls here. I guess he wanted to make me "real Japanese home cooking", but since finding out that I was a vegetarian, scoured his recipe knowledge base (his brain I think haha) for Japanese traditional cooking that didn't have meat in it. Ahhh so sweet. x_x; So.. we went and helped shell some Gingko nuts for what he was making. I had never seen or eaten them before... but, we did that and he chatted to us.

I wish I had taken a picture, but he fed us like crazy. First was bamboo and rice in the rice cooker (I guess special bamboo that yesterday was the last day they sell them in the market because it's very seasonal. Next was what is called Chawan Mushi. It's traditional Japanese pudding, and it was SO good. It had kind of an egg flavor/substance. I really don't know how to describe it, but it was really good. With that there was pickled daikon (Japanese raddish) which was SO good and 2 other picked vegetables which I really had no idea what they were, but they were tasty. He also made some bamboo.. something, which I guess is normally made with chicken and some other meat, but he left it out. It was basically bamboo, but it was very good.

After that, we were given homemade ume (plum)... juice? Water? It was like ume flavored water. I have no idea how she made it, but it was very tasty. And some traditional Japanese green tea. We chatted for a little bit, and Ojii-chan is a very interesting person. He has lots of stories and told me that when he was 8-13 he could speak English fluently, because this area, Nagoya, and another area was completely American families. But, he didn't use it for 6 years and forgot it all lol. Anyway, he then pulled out his homemade ice cream. Again. XD It was vanilla ice cream this time. It's really, really delicious and he wants to teach me how to make it. He first gave everyone 1 scoop of ice cream, and I began to eat it.. and then he plopped another scoop into my bowl. Augh XD And everyone else's bowl... and then another scoop. omggg 3 scoops of ice cream, seriously.

Anyway, I finished that and was starting to feel super full, what with all the rice, drinks, and ice cream. I should add that I had 2 bowls of rice.. ^^; He then offered me to try some Taiwanese Wintermelon tea. Ahhhh.. okay.. so I tried it. It was good! Tasted kind of like barley tea at first, and then once it cooled down it had a completely different flavor.

Then he began to look at the grapefruit on the table, and tell us that he didn't know what to do with them because he didn't like the flavor of these ones.. so he told us to eat it. Eeeeeeeehhhhhh x_X;; I was seriously so full yesterday.. ugh. But it was so sweet of him to make all these traditional meat-less Japanese dishes. He really went out of his way. But I found out that he is extremely good at making tempura and onigiri. OMG :x

And that brings us to now. So, I am just going to end with my goodies from the THSK tour, and a few random photos.

Poster :D

Some freebies from the concert (ads etc) and my ticket

Bag!

Pumpkin Croquettes. Omg so good. :x And yes, it is true that Japanese pumpkins taste much different (better) than American ones.

You might just be going to similar purikura coincidentally...lots of them have really different ways of decorating the pictures and stuff! :P

I'll take you to the UFO one whenever you come here! I'm thinking, maybe you could come on a weekend in July? Because I'm thinking again about not taking my apartment for August...and I really want you to come here so I can show you everything cool around here and introduce you to my host family and friends. ;P

I still wanna go visit you somehow, toooo.
Lemme know when would be good? I have like nothing to do for the next thirty-ish days minus like. Two days. :P

Did you still want me to find out about the cell phone for you? Like, how much it would be? I can go to Softbank myself and find out if you want! :P

From: [identity profile] eggchan.livejournal.com
ahhh! the cell phone thing would be suuuper awesome if you could find out :x

and yes! I think probably mid-late July would be good? I'll have to see if prices go up because of the Bon festival though, so.. xD;; I dunno.

But yes.. I think any weekend is fine, I just need to give Yamasa the heads up about 5 days-1 week before you show up!

Jesus! Epic post of foodie goodness! And Arashi! And DBSK!

*lol*

Though now I'm super hungry and jealous that you had chawanmushi. My grandmother used to make it for me when I was younger, and I loved it, but I've had no success recreating it. :(

Ooooo. And were the pumpkin croquettes entirely made of pumpkin or was there still some potato in there? Just curious because they look hella good!

hmmm.. about the pumpkin croquettes, I'm really not sure. I think they were entirely made of pumpkin, but it is possible that it was mushed together with potato.

Oh my god, this post is making me so hungry!

I'm in aww in just how pretty that parfait looks....I almost wouldn't want to eat it because it looks so good @____@

That Arashi AU cardboard stand.....of course Ohmiya are together X3 I'm kinda scared of what's going to happen if I see something like that while I'm in Japan. I hope I don't fangirl it up too badly. People will probably think I'm a freak XD

You guys look so cute in your purikura pictures! I love stuff like that ^^

You look like you're having a lot of fun~! Ohhh I have a quick question....for someone who speaks little japanese and doesn't really understand a whole lot, would it still be fairly easy to get around town? I heard lots of signs and stuff like that are also in english. I have a friend living in Japan right now who's going to help us out, but she won't be with us everyday.

Date: 2009-06-25 02:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eggchan.livejournal.com
well it all depends on where you go.. and what you're talking about. XD If you're talking about signs on stores and shops, then if you're in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya etc (larger cities), you're going to find more places with English signs etc. Where I am, since it's not a huge city it's got quite a bit less English, especially on menus.

If you're talking about street signs, there aren't any. So I suggest bringing a very good map. BUT.. I think you will be okay getting around. Especially if you're in the larger cities, there are going to be some people who speak English. People around here really don't speak English, so if you have questions it's gonna have to be in Japanese lol.

Well either way... bring a good map. :) I've been saved many times by the map that Yamasa gave me when I first arrived. Also google maps is really nice for finding train times and prices.
